NEWS AND UPDATES:

MSBA Approves Schematic Design – On January 27, 2010 the Massachusetts School Building Authority Board voted to approve Carlisle’s schematic design.  The Board committed to reimburse the town for 40% of the eligible project costs, up to approximately $7 million.  In order to receive the reimbursement, the Town now has 120 days to vote on funding the $20 million project.

Special Town Meeting, April 5 - The Selectmen have called a Special Town Meeting for Monday, April 5 at 7:00pm in the Corey Auditorium to consider a Warrant article for funding the balance of the project.  The warrant article must pass by a two-thirds majority.

Special Election, April 13 – The Selectmen have also called a Special Election for Tuesday, April 13.  If the Warrant article is approved at Town Meeting, a majority of voters in the Special Election must approve a debt exclusion to fund the project.

What's It All About?
This website describes the Carlisle School Building project. The Carlisle School Building Committee created it in an effort to keep the voters of Carlisle up-to-date on the progress of the project and the key decision points.

The proposed building will replace the aging Spalding Building at the school and house pre-Kindergarten through 2nd grade. In addition, the project includes renovations and repairs to other campus buildings.

The town has been working on this initiative for several years and it has involved thousands of volunteer hours. While current economic conditions may seem unfavorable to such an undertaking, it is actually the best time in a long time and such a chance is unlikely to come again soon. Why?

  • The state has approved Carlisle for a 40% reimbursement
  • There are limited state funds and delaying may cause us to lose our priority status
  • Construction companies are eagerly looking for work and pricing very competitively
